Shallots

     Kari A. Flickinger

The lady borne of

dual symptoms,

where maidens lay down

              dead for

              men they haven’t even              seen.

Where old gold

crouches in dirt hills

under prairie women

              hitching up skirts

              and virgin burgeoning brings

              the brood                                    home.

I have been

loose tendrils

              and tight buns

              lose my pins

              misplace my ribs

under whalebone and steel, too

like eve misplacing                                  adam.

Kari A. Flickinger crawled out of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in a de-evolved quest seeking the sea and landed in California's Bay Area. Her poetry and stories have been published in or are forthcoming from Susurrus and Falcon’s Scratch magazines, Jane's Boy Press, The Daily Californian, and The DVC Inquirer. She's currently studying at UC Berkeley.
